To all Members of the Carleton Community,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am pleased to announce a new Dean for the Faculty of Science. Please join me in welcoming Charles L.B. Macdonald from the University of Windsor, who will begin a five-year term on Aug. 1, 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macdonald served in significant administrative roles during his time at the University of Windsor, as the Associate Dean of Science responsible for graduate studies from 2010-2017, as the Acting Dean of Science from 2015-2016 and, most recently, as the Head of the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On behalf of Carleton University, I look forward to welcoming Chuck to our community. He is a seasoned academic administrator with an in-depth understanding of the issues facing higher education in general, as well as the particular issues facing universities in Ontario. These skills, together with his strong research portfolio and clear vision for the future, make him an outstanding choice for Science at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I would like to take this opportunity to thank members of the Science Decanal Search Committee for their care and diligent work in completing a successful search process. As well, on behalf of the Search Committee, I thank all who submitted comments and feedback throughout the process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We would also like to thank Dwight Deugo for taking on the role of interim dean this past year and for accepting to continue until Aug. 1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Macdonald was born in Halifax, N.S. He obtained a BSc (Hons) in 1994 and a PhD in 1998 under the supervision of Prof. Neil Burford at Dalhousie University in Halifax. From 1998 to 2001, Macdonald was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Texas at Austin with Prof. Alan H. Cowley, FRS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2001, he joined the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Windsor as an Assistant Professor and subsequently rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Chemistry.  Macdonald’s areas of scientific interest include main group synthetic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, crystallography and computational\/theoretical chemistry. He is happily married to Dr. Inga Sli\u0161kovi\u0107 and is the proud father of two little boys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In accepting the position, Macdonald said: \u201cI am elated and tremendously thrilled to be joining the Faculty of Science at Carleton University during this exciting time of growth and renewal. I am looking forward very much to getting to know the faculty, staff and students who make the Faculty of Science what it is and to becoming a member of the Carleton community.  I am confident that \u2013 together \u2013 we will do great things!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please join me in welcoming him to Carleton University and to the Faculty of Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
