\n Carleton Announces University Librarian Appointment\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Carleton University President Benoit-Antoine Bacon and Provost Jerry Tomberlin are pleased to announce the appointment of Amber Lannon as University Librarian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lannon has served as Carleton\u2019s Interim University Librarian since Jan. 1, 2020. She joined Carleton in July 2016 as Associate University Librarian (Academic Services). In this role, she was responsible for a significant portfolio that included the Research Support Services, Access Services, and Archives and Research Collections departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI congratulate Amber on this appointment and look forward to continuing to work together,\u201d said Tomberlin. \u201cShe is an excellent choice for this role and has already proven to be a valuable part of our academic leadership team. On a personal note, I have been impressed by what she has accomplished as Interim University Librarian during the last four months, especially given the unprecedented challenges we are all facing due to the public health crisis.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lannon has a wide breadth of experience with managing large teams in an academic library setting. Prior to joining Carleton, she held various leadership roles at McGill University\u2019s library. She served as the Head of Operations, and later as the Head Librarian, in the Humanities and Social Sciences branch before taking on the Acting Associate Dean of User Services role where she oversaw nine branches and led program development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lannon holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Mary\u2019s University, a Master of Library and Information Studies degree from Dalhousie University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am thrilled to be appointed as the University Librarian and I look forward to serving the Carleton community in the years ahead,\u201d said Lannon. \u201cThe library team is exceptional and truly committed to students and faculty, which has never been more evident than during the public health crisis we are navigating together.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tomberlin chaired the advisory search committee that was comprised of undergraduate and graduate students, librarians, faculty and staff members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe advisory search committee was unanimous in its recommendation and highlighted Amber\u2019s commitment to Carleton students and researchers, her considerable experience and her collaborative and supportive leadership qualities,\u201d said Tomberlin. \u201cOn behalf of the committee, I thank everyone from the Carleton community who contributed to the consultation process that helped to inform the work of the committee during this search process.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
