\n Dr. Larry Kostiuk Reappointed as Dean of FED\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n\n\n

Carleton University Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Jerry Tomberlin and Provost L. Pauline Rankin have announced that Dr. Larry Kostiuk\u2019s appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Design (FED) has been renewed for a five-year term, ending June 30, 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cLarry\u2019s creative leadership and accomplishments throughout his term as Dean have been pivotal to enhancing the outstanding reputation of Carleton\u2019s Faculty of Engineering and Design,\u201d said Provost Rankin, who chaired the renewal advisory committee. \u201cThank you to the members of the renewal advisory committee for their dedication to this process and please join me in congratulating Larry on his well-deserved reappointment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In his first term as Dean of FED, Dr. Kostiuk was instrumental in overseeing a substantial expansion of the faculty complement in FED. He also led the launch of the Engineering Design Centre<\/a>, a 25,000 square-foot collaborative space dedicated to undergraduate students, and the Women in Engineering and IT (WiE&IT) Program<\/a>, which aims to address the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to his initial appointment as Dean of FED in 2019, Dr. Kostiuk served as Associate Vice-President (Research) after a transformative decade as Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Alberta. While in the Office of the Vice-President (Research), he also led Future Energy Systems, a $75-million research initiative launched by the University of Alberta under the Government of Canada\u2019s Canada First Research Excellence Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Kostiuk holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Calgary, a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta and a PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge. After obtaining his PhD, Kostiuk completed Postdoctoral Fellowships at the University of Cambridge and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in Berkeley, Calif., where he returned to work on special projects as an invited scholar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
