{"id":7118,"date":"2011-08-10T09:08:39","date_gmt":"2011-08-10T13:08:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/?post_type=cu-people&#038;p=7118"},"modified":"2025-07-25T14:17:38","modified_gmt":"2025-07-25T18:17:38","slug":"johanna-peetz","status":"publish","type":"cu-people","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/psychology\/people\/johanna-peetz\/","title":{"rendered":"Johanna Peetz"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Research Interests <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I study time perception, relationships, and personal spending \u2013 see my personal website for more details on current research projects! \u00a0Across the different topics, my research aims to improve everyday decisions and goal-consistent actions.<\/p>\n<p>In general terms, I am interested in how close others \u2013 romantic partners, friends, family members \u2013 influence goals and everyday thoughts and behaviours. For example, does having a conversation about your goal with a friend make it more likely that you will work on this goal?<\/p>\n<p>I am especially interested in how individuals\u2019 financial context \u2013 their perceived or actual income, the financial stress someone might feel in an economically precarious situation, the way finances are organized between partners in a relationship \u2013 affect goal cognition and relationship cognition. For example, do couples with joint financial accounts communicate more often and more effectively about finances? How do your friends\u2019 financial values affect your own saving decisions? What strategies do people use to pursue their spending goals?<\/p>\n<p>One ongoing project supported by SSHRC (#430-2023-00417) examines the role of similarity between relationship partners for relationship outcomes and financial stress.
