In that role, Geoffrey utilized the research skills he developed at Carleton and made great use of his statistical training that was a core component of the MA Psychology program.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>&#8220;Don&#8217;t be surprised if your career following a Psychology degree doesn&#8217;t follow the &#8220;typical path&#8221;. It wasn&#8217;t necessarily the &#8220;hard skills&#8221; I learned in school that have gotten me where I am today but the so-called &#8220;soft skills&#8221;. Grab onto the many opportunities for experience outside academics that being at University affords you.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 id=\"current-position-of-employment-or-schooling\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Current position of employment or schooling<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Manager of the Canadian Post-M.D. Education Registry (CAPER)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-skills-did-you-learn-in-your-ma-that-helped-you-in-your-current-position\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What skills did you learn in your MA that helped you in your current position?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I would argue that the most valuable skills I gained during my MA studies was the ability to think critically about information. As the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Manager of CAPER<\/strong> I am inundated with a lot of information on a daily basis. Without the ability to critically evaluate this data I would be paralyzed in my role. I have also really valued the ability to prioritize competing demands and my writing skills which I honed during my time at Carleton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-did-you-do-after-your-m-a\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What did you do after your M.A.?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After three years as a Research Assistant, I was hired as a Data Analyst and later promoted to <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Senior Data Analyst<\/strong> at the Better Outcomes Registry Network (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bornontario.ca\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.bornontario.ca\/\">BORN<\/a>) Ontario at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheo.on.ca\/en\/index.aspx\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/www.cheo.on.ca\/en\/index.aspx\">CHEO<\/a>. It was in these roles I found that my critical thinking skills were put to test.
