I have a deeply rooted passion for helping others since I was a child and knew from the age of 12 I wanted to be a therapist. I completed a B.A. Honours Degree in Developmental Psychology with a minor in American Sign Language from Carleton University and from there, my journey began! Before becoming a Psychotherapist, I worked as a Supervised Behaviour Consultant within the ABA field for over 4 years, specifically with children who had intellectual and learning disabilities, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder. My love of art and passion for working with those with trauma and PTSD due to abuse led me to complete her practicum at Ottawa Art Therapy Inc. and continue my work, creating strong and empathetic relationships with all my clients. I hope to continue working in this field and providing a space for my clients to feel heard, seen and be their authentic self.

What inspired your career path after graduation?

I always knew I wanted to be a therapist from a young age, which meant graduate studies after my graduation at Carleton were in my sights. I also had incredible experiences in therapy which inspired me to pay this forward. Additionally, I am aware of societal stigmas and want advocate for those who do not fit societal norms.

How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?

During my program at Carleton, I completed research projects, worked in a local children’s hospital and got to work with many incredible faculty mentors. Above all, studying psychology gave me the basis to better understand both myself and others, and this reflects in the way I’m able to show up for my family and friends. I find this field so endlessly fascinating and rewarding, and I want to keep pursuing it for as long as I can.

What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?

My psychology degree equipped me with many transferable skills including data analysis, interpersonal communication, and critical problem-solving.
