Joel<\/strong> earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology and a specialization in Health Psychology. He is currently pursuing a degree in Social Work while working as a Case Manager<\/strong> with Ottawa Salus<\/strong>, supporting individuals with complex mental health needs through community-based services.<\/p>\n\n\n

Brief description of what I do!<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

I work in case management and my main focus is on housing and supporting those with substance use. I alongside with seven other partners, work in the mental health domain aiding people’s well being .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What inspired your career path after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Initially, I was in education as a Behavioral Therapist \/ Special Education Assistant<\/strong> and later went into teaching. Overtime, as much as I loved education, I wanted more for myself and use my psychology skills on a bigger scale. I decided to make the leap of faith and try social work. And I’ve loved it ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It shaped me in developing what my passion is; which is now in social work. I’ve met a lot of amazing professors along the way such as Kim Hellemans<\/a>, Amina Mire<\/a>, Deanna Whelan<\/a>, and Bernadette Campbell<\/a> and other amazing professors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Understanding the brain and behavior, disability work, understanding how to do effective and efficient research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Are there specific Psychology courses, professors, or experiences that stood out during your time at Carleton?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n
