She is currently a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Ph<\/strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">.<\/strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">D. candidate <\/strong>at the University of British Columbia, advancing her research in the field of psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;<strong>Explore as much as possible! Your path doesn&#8217;t have to be straight forward. It&#8217;s a lot more fun to take some detours \ud83d\ude42<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 id=\"brief-description-of-what-i-do\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Brief description of what I do!<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I am a <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Ph.D. candidate<\/strong> in <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Clinical Psychology<\/strong> at the University of British Columbia. My research is focused on the ways we use social media and how this affects us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-inspired-your-career-path-after-graduation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">What inspired your career path after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>While completing my Master\u2019s degree in Experimental Psychology, I realized I wanted to work directly with the people my research was intended to help. This led me to pursue a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"how-did-your-experience-in-the-psychology-program-shape-your-journey\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I got really solid research foundations at Carleton! During my Master&#8217;s at Carleton, I was lucky to be mentored by <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/people\/adelle-forth\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/people\/adelle-forth\/\">Dr. Adelle Forth<\/a>, who encouraged me to research topics that I was genuinely passionate about. I still do research on the same topic!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-skills-or-experiences-were-most-valuable-after-graduation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Before I started my master&#8217;s at Carleton, I wasn&#8217;t sure that grad school was for me. Having a mentor who was so supportive and warm gave me a lot of confidence in myself that this is something I could do and enjoy. I will forever be grateful for the experiences I had at Carleton for helping me find my passion!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"are-there-specific-psychology-courses-professors-or-experiences-that-stood-out-during-your-time-at-carleton\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Are there specific Psychology courses, professors, or experiences that stood out during your time at Carleton?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/people\/adelle-forth\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/fprc\/people\/adelle-forth\/\">Dr. Adelle Forth<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/happinesslab\/dr-zelenski\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/happinesslab\/dr-zelenski\/\">Dr. John Zelenski<\/a> and his <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Happiness Course<\/em>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/neuroscience\/people\/kim-hellemans\/\" type=\"link\" id=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/neuroscience\/people\/kim-hellemans\/\">Dr. Kim Hellemans<\/a> and her <em class=\"myprefix-text-italic\">Intro to Neuroscience <\/em>courses are all stand outs for me!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-has-been-a-highlight-or-proud-moment-in-your-career-so-far\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I had the surreal experience of being interviewed by the New York Times about my dissertation research on the ways that information about ADHD is presented on TikTok!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":328,"featured_media":45337,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"cu_people_first_name":"Vasileia ","cu_people_last_name":"Karasavva","cu_people_initials":"VK","footnotes":"","_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"cu_people_type":[55],"cu_people_expertise":[],"class_list":["post-45489","cu_people","type-cu_people","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","cu_people_type-alumni-profiles"],"acf":{"cu_people_job_title":"","cu_people_degree":" Double Major B.A. Honours in Psychology in Neuroscience & Mental Health + B.Sc.
