Pursue the work that aligns naturally with your skills, personality and strengths. The path may not always be clear or straightforward, but when you focus on what genuinely interests and motivates you &#8211; opportunities will follow! Trust your instincts, stay curious and if it means you have to move across the country to do &#8211; even better!&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h4 id=\"brief-description-of-what-i-do\" class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-align-left\"><strong><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Brief description of what I do!<\/strong><\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>As the <strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">Social Development Manager<\/strong>, I oversee the day-to-day operations of the department, lead strategic planning efforts, and guide the implementation of the Social Development Framework. My responsibilities include grant administration, financial management, and the advancement of a broad range of strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing community safety, health, and well-being in Penticton, BC. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I collaborate closely with key protective service partners, including Bylaw Services, the RCMP, and Fire Services, to support a balanced approach to public safety that integrates both enforcement and non-enforcement strategies. Through these partnerships and community-based initiatives, I work to address complex social issues while promoting a safer, healthier, and more inclusive community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-inspired-your-career-path-after-graduation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">What inspired your career path after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>I was inspired to pursue a career in social development because of my passion for working in communities and creating positive change. What motivates me is seeing the tangible impact of collaborative efforts on peoples lives &#8211; whether it&#8217;s improving access to services, enhancing community well-being or helping individuals overcome their own personal challenges. Being part of initiatives that make a meaningful difference and contribute to strong, healthier communities is what continues to drive my work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"how-did-your-experience-in-the-psychology-program-shape-your-journey\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">How did your experience in the psychology program shape your journey?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My studies in Psychology at Carleton University played a significant role in shaping my career path. Through my coursework, I developed a deeper understanding of human behaviour, mental health and the social factors that influence individual and community well-being.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-skills-or-experiences-were-most-valuable-after-graduation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What skills or experiences were most valuable after graduation?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Things like critical thinking, communication, research and problem solving. A large part of solving complex social issues requires analyzing complexities, understanding different perspectives and making decisions based on evidence rather than assumptions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"what-has-been-a-highlight-or-proud-moment-in-your-career-so-far\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong class=\"myprefix-text-bold\">What has been a highlight or proud moment in your career so far?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>My proudest moment has been connecting with at-risk youth in Ontario, British Columbia, and The Northwest Territories.
