M.A.\/Ph.D. Psychology (Clinical or Experimental Stream)<\/strong>

Many graduate psychology programs will require you to take the Graduate Record Exam <\/strong>(GRE<\/a>). You may need the GRE General Test<\/strong>, the GRE Subject Test <\/strong>or both depending on which school and program you are applying to. Applying to a clinical program?<\/strong> GPA requirements will be higher for clinical programs. Visit National Research Council Rankings of Canadian and American Clinical Ph.D. programs . Check out the APA<\/a> and CPA<\/a> websites for more information about education and training for psychology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Counselling Programs: <\/strong>Canadian Therapy and Counselling Programs<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To be a licensed mental health provider you do not necessarily need a  PhD in clinical psychology. There are some university programs which offer training at the M.A. level (e.g. University of Ottawa, M.A.\/M.Ed. program in Counselling)<\/strong> and one program at Memorial University in Newfoundland  which offers a Psy.D. degree <\/strong>(a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, without the research requirements).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

St. Paul University<\/a> in Ottawa offers a Certificate in Couple Counselling and Spirituality<\/strong>, an M.A. in Counselling and Spirituality<\/strong> and a Ph.D. in Counselling and Spirituality.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE)<\/a> in Toronto offers an Adult Education and Counselling Psychology Program<\/strong>, as well as a Human Development and Applied Psychology Program.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
