The scholarship provides for research supervision, focused seminars, experiential learning through aligning your research proposal with research placement opportunities (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/qes\/qes-as-wa-2021-2024-2\/partners\/\">Placement Partners<\/a>), leadership, and network building.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"sect2.1\" name=\"sect2.1\"><\/a><strong>Time, Duration and Funding<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>This next round of the awards will run between April 2024 and October 2024. The timing will be determined by the acquisition of visas by the awardees and logistical considerations.<\/p>\n<p>There are two award lengths to choose from<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Short-term \u2013 35-60 days; up to a maximum of $13000 CAD<\/li>\n<li>Mid-term \u2013 61-180 days; up to a maximum of $30000 CAD<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>(Note: The activities within Canada can only be up to 120 days under a Public Policy facilitating entry into Canada for short term (120-day) work for researchers under section A25.5 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) stand. For more info, please visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/corporate\/publications-manuals\/operational-bulletins-manuals\/temporary-residents\/foreign-workers\/researcher-exemption.html\">Short-term (120-day) work permit exemption for researchers \u2013 Canada.ca<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><a id=\"sect3\" name=\"sect3\"><\/a><strong>Research Placements<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Each scholar will work with one of our<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/qes\/qes-as-wa-2021-2024-2\/partners\/\">\u00a0Placement Partners<\/a>\u00a0for a minimum of 30% of the duration of their award. This will give the candidate the experience of applying their research skills within the context of our partner organizations. Each proposal needs to indicate clearly how the research is aligned with research placement and how the period of research service will strengthen the researcher and the partner organizations.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"sect3.1\" name=\"sect3.1\"><\/a>Research Mentorship<\/h3>\n<p>Carleton faculty members involved in this scholarship have expertise across all disciplines and access to professional networks providing us the opportunity to match the candidate\u2019s research need for supervision by leveraging other experts.\u00a0 Find out more about them\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/qes\/qes-as-wa-2021-2024\/mentors\/\">here <\/a>and select a potential mentor.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leadership, Learning, and Networking Opportunities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>During the award period Carleton University will provide successful candidates with several workshops designed toward augmenting your research skills such as writing \/ publication \/ curriculum development workshops, data analysis workshops, grant &amp; scholarship writing workshops and access to Carleton\u2019s library resources. These workshops will be offered in-person where permissible or virtually in the event it is not possible to hold them in-person.<\/li>\n<li>Carleton University Faculty offer many talks and lectures throughout the academic year, which you will be encouraged to seek out, including a Brown Bag series through the Institute of African Studies (IAS), the Knowing Africa seminar series, and various public lectures.<\/li>\n<li>As a QEScholar, you will be expected to share the knowledge you have gained with your home institution and community upon your return. You will also be requested to stay in touch and help us build our growing network of QEScholars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a id=\"sect4\" name=\"sect4\"><\/a><strong>Language<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>All applicants must be able to communicate in English or French.<\/li>\n<li>There are certain opportunities for placements and mentorship in French.
