Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering<\/p>\n

Dr. Onita D. Basu, PhD., P.Eng. is a Professor (Civil\/Environmental Eng), Associate Vice-Provost (Graduate Studies) and Carleton QES2025 Project PI at Carleton University. Dr. Basu is interested in all aspects of water and wastewater treatment spanning from centralized (turn on the tap) services to point-of-use decentralized options. Embedded in this research is a complex mix of technical, social, and sustainability lenses. as well as experimental design, pilot scale and full scale research. Dr. Basu supports cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary collaborations to bring the best ideas forward in an increasingly dynamic world to develop solutions that adapt and build resilience to modern day environmental and climate change challenges.<\/span><\/p>\n

Department of Geography and Environmental Studies <\/span><\/p>\n

His research operates at the intersection of Geographic Information Science, human geography, and digital geography. He focuses on modelling spatial interactions to address challenges in biodiversity conservation and urban geography. A significant portion of his research examines the human dimensions of conservation. He investigates the socioecological impacts of conservation policies on local communities. Much of this fieldwork is based around Kibale National Park in Uganda. He studies the relationships between adjacent populations and protected environments. His approach integrates geospatial technologies and network analysis with community surveys. He aims to produce spatially informed solutions that promote sustainable conservation models.<\/span><\/p>\n
