{"id":121,"date":"2017-04-05T15:47:42","date_gmt":"2017-04-05T19:47:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/?page_id=121"},"modified":"2021-07-29T10:23:59","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T14:23:59","slug":"connecting-to-rcdc-storage-server-mac","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/rcdc\/connecting-to-rcdc-storage-server-mac\/","title":{"rendered":"Connecting to RCDC Storage (Mac)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Why use\u00a0RCDC Storage?<\/h2>\n<p>Your Virtual Machine (VM) has its own hard drive where your files and programs will be saved. \u00a0However RCDC provides a network storage option as well. \u00a0This research storage drive provides a variety of benefits<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can connect directory to your research storage from both your on-campus computer and from your VM<\/li>\n<li>You can connect from off-campus using the Carleton VPN<\/li>\n<li>Your research storage\u00a0is larger than the local VM hard drive<\/li>\n<li>Your research storage is backed up, while the local VM hard drive is not<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Connection Instructions<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>In the Finder menu, click &#8220;Go&#8221; and then click &#8220;Connect to Server&#8230;&#8221; (or press\u00a0\u2318K).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-122\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"642\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1.png 642w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-160x120.png 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-240x179.png 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-400x299.png 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/1-360x269.png 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 642px) 100vw, 642px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>In the resulting window, add the supplied path to your storage volume in the &#8220;Server Address&#8221; box and click &#8220;Connect&#8221;.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-123\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"599\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2.png 599w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-160x115.png 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-240x173.png 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-400x288.png 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/wp-content\/uploads\/2-360x260.png 360w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 599px) 100vw, 599px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Ensure you are connecting to the storage server as a &#8220;Registered User&#8221; by clicking the appropriate radio button. If it doesn&#8217;t (or if you are still connected and you simply closed the window), click &#8220;Go&#8221; in the Finder menu and then click &#8220;Network&#8221; (or press Shift-\u2318K).
