{"id":298,"date":"2017-05-05T10:57:13","date_gmt":"2017-05-05T14:57:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/?page_id=298"},"modified":"2021-07-29T10:24:15","modified_gmt":"2021-07-29T14:24:15","slug":"connecting-to-rcdc-storage-server-vm","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/rcs\/rcdc\/connecting-to-rcdc-storage-server-vm\/","title":{"rendered":"Connecting to RCDC Storage Server (VM)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Why use\u00a0RCDC Storage?<\/h2>\n<p>Your Virtual Machine (VM) has its own hard drive where your files and programs will be saved. \u00a0However RCDC provides a network storage option as well. \u00a0This research storage drive provides a variety of benefits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can connect directly\u00a0to your research storage from both your on-campus computer and from your VM<\/li>\n<li>You can connect from off-campus using the Carleton VPN<\/li>\n<li>Your research storage\u00a0is larger than the local VM hard drive<\/li>\n<li>Your research storage is backed up, while the local VM hard drive is not<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To assist you in connecting to this storage, a convenience script is available on the RCDC VM.\u00a0 Here is the complete list of command-line options for the script:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Usage: connect-research-drive [options]<\/p>\n<p>Options:<br \/>\n-c connect to research storage drive (default)<br \/>\n-x disconnect from research storage drive<br \/>\n-v show command version and exit<br \/>\n-n dryrun: do not actually do anything, just show commands that would be run<br \/>\n-u USERNAME connect to storage with MC1 USERNAME<br \/>\n-d DRIVE connect to research storage drive named DRIVE<br \/>\n-h show this help message and exit<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The script&#8217;s default action with no command-line options is to connect to research storage.
