Overview<\/h2>\n

The X2Go software uses the same SSH protocol as remote command-line connections to servers.\u00a0 But unlike plain SSH connections, X2Go provides a full remote graphical desktop environment.\u00a0 Further, you can disconnect and later reconnect to a running X2Go session. On the Virtual Machines in our Linux RCDC compute cloud, X2Go is not normally installed.\u00a0 But if you have a use-case for it, please contact the RCS team and we can help you to set up X2Go.<\/p>\n

Installing X2Go Client<\/h2>\n

The X2Go Client is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.\u00a0 To download a Mac or Windows installer, visit this page:<\/p>\n

Connecting to X2Go Server<\/h2>\n

A member of the RCS team will give you connection information, including username\/password and IP address.\u00a0 They are the same settings as used by SSH software such as MobaXterm.<\/p>\n

To connect:<\/p>\n

  1. Start the Carleton VPN<\/a> if off-campus or on wireless<\/li>\n
  2. Launch the X2Go Client software<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. On the\u00a0Session<\/strong> menu, click New Session<\/strong><\/li>\n
  4. The first time you run X2Go on Windows, you might be asked to allow a few X2go connections through your Windows Defender Firewall.<\/li>\n
  5. Enter the following settings:\n
      \n
    1. Set Host<\/strong> to the provided IP address<\/li>\n
    2. Set the\u00a0Login<\/strong> to the provided username<\/li>\n
    3. Set the Session type<\/strong> to MATE<\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. Optionally, on the Input\/Output tab, select your preferred display size<\/li>\n
    5. Click OK<\/strong> to close the session dialog

    6. Click the box for your newly created session:

    7. Enter your password
      \nThe first time you connect, you will be asked if you trust the host key, click Yes.
