{"id":1216,"date":"2023-10-30T16:14:47","date_gmt":"2023-10-30T20:14:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/readi\/?p=1216"},"modified":"2023-10-30T16:14:47","modified_gmt":"2023-10-30T20:14:47","slug":"workshop-september-can-connect-forum-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/readi\/2023\/workshop-september-can-connect-forum-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop: Education (in) accessibility: Double trouble with an intersectional gaze on progress"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Equity and Inclusive Communities (EIC) will be hosting the webinar &#8220;Education (in) accessibility: Double trouble with an intersectional gaze on progress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Speaker:<\/strong> Dr. Yvonne Simpson (Educator and Disability Advocate)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Event Description:<\/strong>\u00a0In this reflection on the struggles of achieving accessibility and equitable practices in post-secondary education, Dr. Simpson brings to attention the significance of an intersectionality framework as a key indicator for analysis in determining real achievements in EDI initiatives. She argues that new mechanisms for accountability of progress towards achieving barrier free experiences can only be effectively advanced with changing the way systems operate in the lives of people who require accessible environments.
