She then worked as a Postdoctoral Scholar and Research Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In July, 2013 she joined the Department of Psychology at Carleton University as a Developmental and Quantitative Psychologist. Her research focuses on mental health and health-related behavioural development through adolescence and the transition to adulthood, including alcohol and other substance use, ADHD, and social media.<\/p>\n Click here to view Andrea’s Carleton faculty profile<\/a><\/b> <\/p>\n My name is Yulia. I earned my bachelor\u2019s and master\u2019s degrees here, at Carleton University, where I applied Self-Determination Theory to investigate the role of mindfulness in goal attainment and the role of basic psychological needs in the relation between social media use and mental health. Currently, I am a PhD student researching mental health implications of social media use in adolescents and emerging adults. I am passionate about learning the intricacies of health-promoting behaviours to help people (and myself) to actively take care of their mental state. In the context of the primarily negative discussions surrounding the psychological impact of social media use in the media today, I am most driven to unveil what drives younger users toward social media and how they can manage their environments and behaviours online for most optimal health. Outside of academia, I like to spend my time knitting, reading historical fiction, and enjoying nature.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/p>\n My name is Alysha Stoakes and I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology at York University and am currently in the first year of my masters at Carleton. My research interests include transdiagnostic factors that underly the comorbidity between substance use disorders and other externalizing and internalizing disorders.
