Year Course Selection Guide<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Bachelor of Accounting Honours degree requires the completion of 20.0 credits \u2013 these 20.0 credits include both Accounting Major courses and Free Electives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Typically, a full course load in your first year will be 5.0 credits \u2013 this includes 2.5 credits in the Fall term and 2.5 credits in the Winter term. If you wish to take a reduced course load, you should seek academic advising to understand the potential impact on progression. Please contact Jordan Hunter-Fevrier<\/a> at Sprott to discuss your individualized plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When registering for courses, be sure to read through the notes for different sections on Carleton Central. Many first-year courses have sections that are reserved for specific groups of students. For example, BUSI 1800 may have sections that are only open to business students; attempting registration in a different section may result in an error.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When registering for courses with tutorial sections, be sure to register in both a lecture section, and a corresponding tutorial section. Typically, a lecture section will have a letter listed next to it (i.e., BUSI 1800 A), while a corresponding tutorial section will have both a letter, and a number next to it (i.e., BUSI 1800 A01) \u2013 you must register in both!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be sure to register in both the Fall and Winter terms when your time ticket opens!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BAcc First Year Course Selection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Major Courses<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

1. BUSI 1800: Introduction to Business (0.5 credits)
When: Fall term.
Notes: BUSI 1800 is a prerequisite for BUSI 1011 \u2013 this means that BUSI 1800 must be successfully completed in the Fall term to continue with BUSI 1011 in the Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. BUSI 1011: Financial Accounting for Business Students (0.5 credits)
When: Winter term.
Notes: Add this course to your Winter registration after registering for BUSI 1800 in the Fall term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. ECON 1001: Introduction to Economics: Microeconomics (0.5 credits)
When: Fall term.
Notes:  Be sure to register in a section that is reserved for business students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. ECON 1002: Introduction to Economics: Macroeconomics (0.5 credits)
When: Winter term
Notes: Be sure to register in a section that is reserved for business students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. BUSI 1401: Foundations of Information Systems (0.5 credits)
When: Fall OR Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

6. MATH 1009: Mathematics for Business (0.5 credits)
When: Fall OR Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

7. PSYC 1002: Introduction to Psychology II (0.5 credits)
When: Fall OR Winter term.
Notes: Be sure to register in a section that is reserved for business students!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

8. SOCI 1005: Sociology for Bachelor of Business Students (0.5 credits)
When: Fall OR Winter term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elective Courses<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

9. Free Electives (1.0 credits)
When: Fall AND\/OR Winter terms.
Notes: You have the freedom to round your registration out with any additional courses you are interested in! You can allocate some of your free electives towards courses in different subject areas that interest you. However, it is very important to note that you have a very limited number of free electives within the Bachelor of Accounting program. If you decide to pursue an additional program element such as a stream, your free electives will be used up by those eventual courses. As a result, you may wish to save more free electives for later in your journey. If this is the case, you can register for some 2000-level BUSI courses in first year. Please note that must meet the prerequisites for these courses and should feel ready for second year course expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

10. BUSI 1995 (0.0 credits)
When:\u00a0Fall OR Winter term.
Note:\u00a0This is a mandatory,\u00a0non-credit\u00a0course for students in their first year. Course completion is required for progression in the program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Students Admitted with an Additional English Language Requirement (ESLA 1300, ESLA 1500, or ESLA 1900)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

When: Register in the relevant courses as outlined in your offer of admission.
Notes: The total number of credits that you register in will depend on your assigned level of ESLA.
