They are, however, an integral part of everyone’s lives. Regulators in Canada have recognized the need to augment their expertise by increasing their understanding of the interactions between regulatory policy, private business, not-for-profit organizations, and the citizens they serve.

Carleton University responded to this need by offering a professional development program tailored to the needs of the regulatory professional. The Career Development for Regulatory Professionals (CDRP) program is an advanced professional development program for leaders in all aspects of regulation, from policy to implementation. The curriculum is built around four key components of the regulatory life-cycle:

Problem Definition

Instrument Design

Instrument Implementation

Performance Measurement

Prospectus

The application period for 2025-26 is now open.

APPLY NOW

Applicant Profile

The CDRP is for anyone working in a regulatory capacity in the public, private, or not-for-profit sectors. For best results, our participants should have 2-8 years of experience in their relevant field. Our participants will work with multiple players and stakeholders, will gain insights into the regulatory systems, and will develop skills in communicating complex issues to decision-makers. Most importantly, our program’s graduates will be positioned to show leadership in their assigned regulatory role.

Working in a peer-to-peer environment, the participants will develop the knowledge and hone the skills necessary to work within their regulatory realms. Using their unique experiences, every participant will bring valuable lessons to the program and will benefit from each others’ perspectives.

The CDRP is offered through a series of 5 modules, set approximately 2 months apart. Starting in 2025-26, it will be delivered in a hybrid format with the first and last modules being held in-person, and modules 2 through 4 offered virtually. Participants have time to use the lessons learned after each module and share their successes and feedback with their colleagues.

To: Industry Associations

Frequently Asked Questions

View FAQ

Regulations, in both the private and public sector, are becoming more and more complex.
