This insurance is essential to support research, teaching, and operational activities conducted on the water, while ensuring compliance with maritime regulations and minimizing institutional risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00a0<strong>What Is Covered?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n<p>All University-owned boats, vessels and watercraft used in authorized academic, research, or operational activities are insured under a dedicated marine insurance policy. This policy includes the following components:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Hull Insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coverage for physical damage to the University-owned vessel, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Accidental loss or damage<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Collision and grounding<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fire, explosion, and weather-related incidents<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Theft and vandalism<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Marine Liability Insurance<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Third-party liability protection in case of:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Bodily injury or death<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Property damage to other vessels or structures<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pollution liability (limited to accidental release)\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Note:<\/strong> Personal use of University-owned vessels is not permitted and is not covered under this policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Who Is Covered?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This insurance extends to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Faculty, students, and staff operating University vessels for authorized activities<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Authorized students or research personnel (under supervision)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Approved operators who meet training and licensing requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Operator Eligibility &amp; Training Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All vessel operators must:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hold a valid Pleasure Craft Operator Card\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be registered and approved through the Department of Risk Management\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Reminder:<\/strong> Unauthorized operation of University vessels is strictly prohibited and may void insurance coverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Need to Register a Vessel of Operator?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Departments acquiring or operating boats under University ownership must notify the Department of Risk Management for insurance registration and compliance review.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Whenever a new operator needs to be added, please complete <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/riskmanagement\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2025\/11\/Request-to-Add-Pleasure-Craft-Operator.pdf\">Request to Add Pleasure Craft Operator<\/a> form and submit the signed copy to risk @carleton.ca\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Incident Reporting &amp; Claims<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the event of an accident, incident, or damage involving a University-owned vessel:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ensure all individuals are safe and receive medical attention if needed<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Contact local marine authorities or emergency services<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Report the incident immediately to: The Department of Risk Management 613-262-7431<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>A formal incident report must be submitted within 48 hours of the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>All University-owned boats, vessels and watercraft used in authorized academic, research, or operational activities are insured under a dedicated marine insurance policy.
