The following summary describes the purpose, activities and timelines associated with the Semi Autonomous Vehicle-Engagement (SAV-ED) Framework. The objective of this project is to advance safe road practice initiatives by developing a method for objectively quantifying the effect of SAVs on driver engagement and performance. The methods of the SAV-ED Framework support national collection and dissemination of timely and quality road safety data by exploiting emerging SAV sensor data, established safety sensors, and focused behavioural measures. A key objective of this project is to enhance shared knowledge of the impact of SAVs, a prominent emerging road safety technology for the 21st century. This project focuses on two vulnerable driving groups: novice drivers and older drivers.
