Pressure sensitive mats can be placed on a bed frame under the mattress and this has been used to assess respiration rate and bed movements such as those associated with pain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SAM3 researchers have extensive experience and expertise in a wide range of pressure and force sensors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sensor Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Force sensitive resistors and Force sensitive capacitors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strain gauges and load cells<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fibre optic force sensors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Optical Force sensors including proximity sensors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Materials to support sensors (gels, plastics, metals)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Applications<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hand grip or push forces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Respiration rate and related measures (Apnea)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movements including restlessness and lack of movement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Human movement including bed exit, sway, posture and centre of pressure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forces applied to skin including normal and shear forces<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The mats have also been used on the floor to better characterize bed exits and to measure the standing stability of patients.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Methods to detect the lying posture is important in optimizing the
