Professor Dr. Thomas Clemen (formerly Thiel-Clemen) is a Full Professor of Artificial Intelligence and Data Management at HAW Hamburg, Germany, a position he has held since 2009. His research focuses on agentic AI, cooperation in multi-agent systems, digital twins, agent-based modeling and simulation, and geoinformatics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2025, he also serves as Adjunct Professor at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and as Partner and AI Practice Lead at 4-advice GmbH. He has been an Adjunct Professor at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in Arusha, Tanzania, since 2021. This international engagement reflects his long-standing commitment to advancing AI research and education across borders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prior to his academic career, Prof. Clemen spent a decade (1999\u20132009) in industry as a Global Client Principal and Senior Strategy Consultant at Hewlett-Packard Global Services. He earned his Dr. rer. nat. in computer science from the University of Kiel in 1999 and studied computer science at the Technical University of Dortmund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the academic sphere, Prof. Clemen serves as Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Zuse Schools of Excellence in AI and is a Technology Mentor for AI.Startups in Hamburg. He previously served as Vice Dean of International Affairs at the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science at HAW Hamburg (2014\u20132023) and was a member of the Federal Commission on Civil Protection at the German Federal Ministry of the Interior (2011\u20132015). His publications span topics from multi-agent imitation learning to digital twins for smart cities, including contributions to Nature Climate Change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
