Clemen is a distinguished scientist and innovation strategist dedicated to the digital transformation of complex systems. With a robust background in environmental geography and computational modeling, she bridges the gap between high-level academic research and industrial application, particularly within global logistics and sustainable infrastructure. Currently serving as Senior Project Manager for Science & Innovation at the Logistics Initiative Hamburg (LIHH), Dr. Clemen spearheads the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Quantum Computing to optimize logistics and intralogistics frameworks.

For over a decade, she also led international initiatives as a Senior Researcher at HAW Hamburg, including EU-funded projects that utilised Simulation-as-a-Service for urban sustainability and climate change. Building on this extensive research background, she has been a lecturer at HAW Hamburg since 2022, where she is responsible for independently delivering courses in the fields of computer science and sustainability. Throughout her career, Dr Clemen has successfully led a wide range of projects, also taking on the role of project manager.

Dr Clemen obtained her PhD (Dr rer. nat.) in Geography from the University of Kiel (CAU), where her pioneering work focused on agent-based modelling for savannah ecosystems. As a sought-after speaker on the future of digitalised logistics, she is currently advocating for a ‘quantum-ready’ infrastructure and data-driven decision-making to enable more sustainable and crisis-resilient logistics.

Areas of Expertise

Logistics & Intralogistics Innovation: Driving the adoption of smart warehouse technologies and automated material handling through digital simulation.

Applied AI & Quantum Computing: Exploring the potential of Quantum algorithms and AI-driven analytics for complex routing, load optimization, and real-time decision-making in logistics hubs.

Computational Modeling & Simulation: Specialist in large-scale agent-based systems (ABM) to simulate complex environmental and urban processes.

Environmental Geography & Ecology: Extensive research on climate change impacts, biodiversity, and ecosystem management, with a specific focus on Savanna ecosystems.

Digital Twins & Smart Cities: Utilizing simulation-as-a-service to create predictive models for urban logistics, epidemiology, and resource management.

Science & Innovation Management: Orchestrating international research consortia and facilitating knowledge transfer between European and global partners.

Ulfia A.
