Title:<\/strong> ENERGY EFFICIENT PHYSICAL LAYER WIRELESS SYSTEMS: THE CASE OF INDEX MODULATION<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ABSTRACT:<\/strong> Recently, there has been an escalating demand for higher
\ndata rate communication systems that is associated with an increasing
\nneed in the number of devices, gadgets and wireless services. On the
\none hand, the 5G infrastructure public-private partnership has set the
\ngoal of reaching 1000 times more speed compared to what we had in
\n2010, while the power to be-consumed to run such networks are desired
\nto be around 10% of the today\u2019s consumption. This talk presents a
\ncomprehensive survey of the widely used energy efficient (EE)
\nmodulation schemes. First, it outlines the challenges of MIMO systems,
\nfollowed by comprehensive literature review and analysis of spatial
\nmodulations (SM), their applications, and drawbacks. In the second
\npart of the talk, taxonomy is given of the current new index
\nmodulation schemes such as code index modulations, OFDM-index
\nmodulations. Finally, this talk outlines the possible future research
\ndirections in this active research area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker bio:<\/strong> Georges Kaddoum received the B.Sc. degree in electrical
\nengineering from \u00c9cole Nationale Sup\u00e9rieure de Techniques Avanc\u00e9es
\n(ENSTA Bretagne), Brest, France, the M.S. degree in telecommunications
\nand signal processing (circuits, systems, and signal processing) from
\nthe Universit\u00e9 de Bretagne Occidentale and T\u00e9l\u00e9com Bretagne (ENSTB),
\nBrest, in 2005, and the Ph.D. degree (Hons.) in signal processing and
\ntelecommunications from the National Institute of Applied Sciences
\n(INSA), University of Toulouse, Toulouse, France, in 2009. Since 2010,
\nhe has been a Scientific Consultant in the field of space and wireless
\ntelecommunications for several US and Canadian companies. He is
\ncurrently an Associate Professor of electrical engineering with the
\n\u00c9cole de Technologie Sup\u00e9rieure (ETS), University of Qu\u00e9bec, Montreal,
\nQC, Canada. In 2014, he was awarded the ETS Research Chair in physical
\nlayer security for wireless networks. He has published more than 120
\njournal and conference papers and has two pending patents. His recent
\nresearch activities cover mobile communication systems, modulations,
\nsecure transmissions, and space communications and navigation. He
\nreceived the Best Paper Award at the 2014 IEEE International
\nConference on Wireless and Mobile Computing, Networking, and
\nCommunications, with three co-authors, and the 2015 and 2017 IEEE
\nTransactions on Communications Top Reviewer Award. He is currently
\nserving as an Editor of the IEEE Communications Letters<\/p>\n\n\n\n
