Title:<\/strong> Digital Transformation and the Dark Side of the Force<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker:<\/strong> Dr. Rainer Schoenen, Professor, HAW-Hamburg, Germany<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Abstract:<\/strong> Digital transformation, sustainability and globalization are
\nthe heavy topics of the 21st century. Many are afraid of this. For a
\ngood reason? We critically discuss the new digital world and why this
\ndevelopment is not sustainable in many cases. It is also connected to
\nhow much the truth is prevaricated these days. Numerous examples point
\nat how much we move away from digital (data) self control and how
\nhopelessly far behind legislation is to protect consumers and
\ncitizens. Another aspect to discover is how far the beastly appetite
\nfor growth has driven IT+ITC into a wasteful inefficiency. This makes
\nus engineers responsible for the climate change, too. As an example we
\nsee the growth of CPU instruction rates by Moore’s law being eaten up
\nmostly by wasteful operating systems, big software, newest apps and
\ngraphical gimmicks. One solution approach is suggested which by
\npeaceful means, but not entirely voluntary, will bind us into
\nobligation to protect the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaker Bio:<\/strong> Rainer Schoenen (SM\u201913) received the Dipl.-Ing. and Ph.D. degrees
\nin electrical engineering from RWTH Aachen University, Aachen,
\nGermany, in 1995 and 2000, respectively. His Ph.D. dissertation was
\nentitled \u201cSystem Components for Broadband Universal Networks with QoS
\nGuarantee\u201d, which was written within the ISS Group of Prof. H. Meyr.
\nIn 2000, he became self-employed. From 2005 to 2009, he was a Senior
\nResearcher with the Communication Networks Research Group, RWTH Aachen
\nUniversity, with Prof. B. Walke, working on computer networks, queuing
\ntheory, Petri-nets, LTE-Advanced, frequency-division duplex relaying,
\nscheduling, OSI layer 2 (MAC), and IMT-Advanced Evaluation within
\nWINNER+. From 2010 to 2014, he was a Project Manager with Prof. H.
\nYanikomeroglu at Carleton University. Since 2015, he has been a
\nProfessor with Hamburg University of Applied Sciences (HAW), Hamburg,
\nGermany. His research interests include stochastic Petri-nets and
\nqueuing systems, asynchronous transfer mode, Transmission Control
\nProtocol\/Internet Protocol, switching, flow control, quality of
\nservice, tariffs, user-in-the-loop, wireless resource and packet
\nscheduling, and the medium access control layer of 5G systems.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
