Ahmed<\/a>), Carleton University<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Abstract:&nbsp;<\/strong> In this presentation, a brief introduction to energy<br>\nharvesting (EH) communications and machine-to-machine (M2M)<br>\ncommunications is presented and the major challenges in these research<br>\nareas are discussed. Then, we analyze the performance of the random<br>\naccess procedure of the LTE-A network in the EH-M2M scenario, where<br>\nthe 3GPP\u2019s access class barring mechanism (ACB) is employed to<br>\ndecrease the number of packet collision. Our analytic and simulation<br>\nresults suggest that in the EH-M2M scenario, despite the lower number<br>\nof contending nodes in comparison with the non-EH scenario, the ACB<br>\nparameters must be chosen in a more conservative way to avoid<br>\nexcessive collisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Bio:<\/strong> Sina Khoshabi-Nobar received his B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD degrees<br>\nfrom University of Tabriz, Iran, in 2011, 2013, and 2017,<br>\nrespectively. His PhD dissertation was entitled \u201cGreen Cognitive Radio<br>\nNetwork with Central Energy Harvester\/Transmitter Node\u201d. Currently, he<br>\nis a postdoctoral fellow at Carleton University under the supervision<br>\nof Prof. S. Mahmoud and Prof. M.H. Ahmed, where he is conducting<br>\nresearch on energy-harvesting-based M2M communications in cellular<br>\nnetworks.
