Abstract:<\/strong>
\nAs the standardization of 5G requirements is advancing rapidly, many technologies are getting an increased attention. On one hand, Heterogeneous networks (Hetnets) are already established as an important component of future networks. Hetnets provide increased spectral efficiency and energy efficiency in cellular networks. Moreover, Device-to-Device (D2D) communication is seen as a promising technology to improve data rates and transmission delays. On the other hand, edge caching has attracted attention for its ability to further reduce the backhaul traffic and eliminate duplicate transmissions of popular contents. In this talk, we will present the challenges linked to edge caching and resource allocation in D2D-assisted Hetnets. Specifically, we will investigate the joint channel allocation and caching problem and propose feasible solutions. Then, we will focus on the interference management problem within the D2D network where we propose a learning-based technique to improve its performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Biography:<\/strong>
\nWael Jaafar received the B.Eng. degree from the \u00c9cole Sup\u00e9rieure des Communications de Tunis (High Institute of Communications, SUPCOM), Tunis, Tunisia, in 2007, and the M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the \u00c9cole Polytechnique de Montr\u00e9al (Polytechnic Montreal), Montreal, QC, Canada, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. He was a Research Intern with the Department of Computer Science, UQAM, between February 2007 and September 2007 and a Visiting Researcher within Keio University, Tokyo, Japan, between March 2012 and June 2012. From 2014 to 2017, he has pursued a career in the telecommunications industry, where he has been involved in designing solutions for projects across Canada and abroad. He is currently a Postdoctoral Fellow within the Computer Science Department of UQAM, Montreal. On Dec 1st, 2018, he will be joining Carleton University as an NSERC PDF for two years. His research interests include wireless communications, cooperative communications, resource allocation, caching, computing and machine learning.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
