Including M2M in such an architecture designed for human communication requires novel transmission techniques due to their different communication nature including massive number of connected devices, mostly short data transmission, very high link reliability and low latency requirement, and real-time operation. Once these machines are connected through 5G networks, the next natural step will be controlling the elements in our environment based on the data collected from these machines, providing a paradigm shift for control and communication systems, requiring their joint design in beyond 5G networks. Envisioning such a change in the next ten years, the talk will introduce the evolution of M2M communications towards large-scale cyber-physical systems, where control system requirements and characteristics need to be incorporated into communication system design, then provide novel resource allocation strategies to accommodate these systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BIO:<\/strong> Sinem Coleri Ergen received the BS degree in electrical and electronics engineering from Bilkent University in 2000, the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering and computer sciences from University of California Berkeley in 2002 and 2005. She worked as a research scientist in Wireless Sensor Networks Berkeley Lab under sponsorship of Pirelli and Telecom Italia from 2006 to 2009. Since September 2009, she has been a faculty member in the department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Koc University, where she is currently Associate Professor.
