IEEE WIE is one of the world\u2019s largest professional organizations dedicated to promoting women engineers and scientists, with a mission to inspire, engage, and empower women in engineering and technology worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Afsoon\u2019s appointment as Chair is a testament to her passion for advocacy and her dedication to fostering diversity and inclusion within the engineering community. As Chair, she will lead efforts to support women engineers and professionals by offering opportunities for mentorship, professional development, and networking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under her leadership, the IEEE Ottawa WIE Affinity Group is poised to continue advancing its mission of promoting gender diversity and inclusion within the field. This appointment highlights Afsoon\u2019s ongoing contributions to the engineering community and her commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable environment for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"about-afsoon\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">About Afsoon:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Afsoon Alidadi Shamsabadi (she\/her) is a PhD Candidate and Contract Instructor in the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton University. She completed her bachelor\u2019s degree at Isfahan University of Technology in 2012 and earned her master\u2019s degree from Sharif University of Technology in 2014. Following her studies, Afsoon worked as a solution sales manager at Huawei Technologies Ltd. Co. in Tehran, Iran, from 2014 to 2020, where she honed her skills in technology and management, significantly advancing the company\u2019s technological solutions sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In January 2021, Afsoon began her PhD studies at Carleton University under the supervision of Professor Halim Yanikomeroglu. Her research focuses on integrating High Altitude Platform Stations (HAPS) with terrestrial wireless networks, a field that has the potential to revolutionize next-generation connectivity.
