Intellectual property basics (IP Basics) will familiarize participants with the concept of intellectual property (IP), provide definitions for the major types of IP – trademarks, patents, industrial designs, trade secrets and copyright – and the protections they give. You will be introduced to the value of IP and five (5) basic strategies for using your IP to maintain, grow or exploit your business. You can come for the workshop only, or stay for a working lunch and Q&A

This workshop is presented by Jeffrey Orser, who completed a Bachelor’s of Applied Science in Electrical Engineering, Management Option (University of Ottawa, 2002). Jeffrey has been an employee of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) since 2003.  Over this period he has occupied numerous positions within the Patent Branch and the Trademarks Branch, including: Patent Examiner; Senior Patent Examiner; Patent Section Head; and Deputy Director of Trademarks Examination. He is currently the Manager of Business Development within the Business Services Branch. You can join Jeff again in May for a follow-up session focused on Patents!
