Émilie Ovenden

Émilie Ovenden is a third-year student in the Honours Bachelor of Global and International Studies specializing in Global Law and Social Justice at Carleton University. In 2015 and 2016, she was awarded a scholarship to conduct ethnographic field research in rural Nicaragua as the graduating project for her North-South Studies CÉGEP diploma. From 2016 to 2017, she participated in grass-roots community initiatives surrounding sustainable development and community engagement in Cambodia and Nepal. Since 2015, she has been strongly involved in reforestation efforts across northern Canada and acts as an ambassador for Community Forests International, an organization focused on social justice and sustainability in Tanzania. Émilie now works under Steering Committee member Dr. Melanie Adrian as the Scholars at Risk Canada Intern. She seeks to advance her commitment to the domains of environmentalism, human rights and social justice.
