COMP4906 Pre-Proposal & Permission Form - School of Computer Science

In connection with your participation in COMP 4906, the School of Computer Science will display (on our publicly visible online repository) the TITLE of your Honours Thesis, a brief text ABSTRACT (written by you) describing your thesis, and a digital IMAGE (chosen by you) depicting your thesis. Your thesis report and code/testing files will also be uploaded to the repository (as a means of archiving), but these files will only be visible/downloadable by yourself and faculty/staff in the computer science department.

Proposal File*
The proposal file must be a PDF (likely 2 or 3 pages long) which gives a clear and concise overview of the thesis proposal that will be handed in at the end of the fall term. It must indicate the problem motivation, main objectives, any hardware/software requirements and expected deliverables. It must also include a bi-weekly schedule which indicates project milestones throughout the fall term only.
To comply with privacy laws, including the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, the school requires your permission to include your NAME alongside the publicly-visible thesis title, abstract and image, however there will be no penalty if you do not consent. Please check the appropriate box below:*
- I agree that posting my name alongside my thesis in the repository (as mentioned above) does not constitute a breach of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or other applicable privacy laws, and waive all rights and remedies that would otherwise have accrued to me on account of publishing my name there.
- I do not give permission to the School of Computer Science to make my name (as mentioned above) visible/available to the general public (online or otherwise), only the abstract, title and image will be displayed.
The school may like to use some images and video clips of interesting theses that students have worked on for the purposes of promoting the school (e.g., brochures, videos, webpages).
