2019 winners\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Grad TA award:<\/strong> Steven Porretta<\/li>\n<li><strong>Undergrad TA award:<\/strong> Forrest Buehlow<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<h2><a id=\"about\"><\/a>About the Awards<\/h2>\n<p>School of Computer Science Outstanding TA Award<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Two (2) TA awards are available to be won by TAs from the School of Computer Science.<\/li>\n<li>Each award is valued at $100 and includes a commendation letter and formal recognition on the School of Computer Science website.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><a id=\"nominations\"><\/a>Nomination Process<\/h2>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-who-is-eligible\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-who-is-eligible\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Who is eligible?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-who-is-eligible\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p><strong>i.<\/strong> Only those TAs that have been assigned to a course (Summer 2025 \u2013 Winter 2026, full year or<br \/>\none term) are eligible for the Outstanding TA Awards.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-who-should-submit-the-nomination-form-package\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-who-should-submit-the-nomination-form-package\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Who should submit the nomination form\/package?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-who-should-submit-the-nomination-form-package\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p><strong>ii.<\/strong> Who can nominate?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faculty, contract instructors, and students are welcome to nominate their TA(s).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>iii.<\/strong> Are self-nominations welcome?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, TAs may nominate themselves for the award but self-nominations that have meaningful support from faculty, contract instructors, or students in the course will be given more weight.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>iv.<\/strong> Preference for faculty nominations?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faculty nominations will be weighted more significantly than other non-faculty nominated submissions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>v.<\/strong> Any preference for support from students?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Submissions that provide meaningful support will be weighted more significantly than nonspecific compliments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>vi.<\/strong> Can teaching materials be included and, if so, what conditions are placed on these documents?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yes, but submitted content should include a description of the context (i.e., why is it included, what impact did the content have, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<div class=\"slideme\"><dl class=\"slideme__list\"><dt class=\"slideme__term\"><a href=\"#slideme-where-and-when-to-submit\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"slideme-where-and-when-to-submit\" class=\"slideme__heading slideme__trigger\">Where and when to submit?<\/a><\/dt><dd class=\"slideme__description\" id=\"slideme-where-and-when-to-submit\" aria-hidden=\"true\"><p><\/p>\n<p>vii. Nominators are requested to complete the online form available here <a href=\"https:\/\/ta-awards.scs.carleton.ca\">https:\/\/ta-awards.scs.carleton.ca <\/a>and attach any additional documentation using this online form.<\/p>\n<p>viii. The deadline to submit nominations is <strong>Friday, April 10, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><\/p><\/dd><dl><\/div>\n<h2><a id=\"selection\"><\/a>Selection Process<\/h2>\n<p>Committee breakdown<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The committee consists of the Associate Director (undergraduate) and the Lab Coordinators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Criteria committee is looking for<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The committee considers all ways in which TAs improve or contribute to learning within<br \/>\nthe School of Computer Science.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Date winner(s) will be informed<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The winner(s) will be notified in early May.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The TA excellence awards are a great opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and efforts TAs provide to create a supportive environment for the students, faculty, and staff.
