When successful the door will unlock and the reader LED turns from red to green.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tips:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Campus card magnetic stripe faces towards the reader<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Don&#8217;t swipe too slow or very fast<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Swipe card in an up to down motion<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Make sure your magnetic stripe is clean. At this time all perimeter Herzberg access card readers are equipped with contactless\/chip readers. They are simple to use just tap your card and the door will open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"i-tapped-my-card-and-the-door-wont-open\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">I tapped my card and the door won&#8217;t open<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If your campus card was issued before 2024 then it does not have a chip. Please see the campus card office and have your card replaced. &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campus Card Office<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>How can I check if my card has a chip? &#8211; <a href=\"#chip\">See Chipcards<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I have a chip-card but the door won&#8217;t open. &#8211; You can report the issue and request help by filling out this SCS form: <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/computer-lab-access-requests-and-to-report-lab-issues-form\/\">Access card issue form<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"using-the-pin-number\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"PIN\"><\/a>Using the PIN number<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here is how you use the CBORD PIN:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Swipe your card<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enter Pin number<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Press #<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Door will unlock if Pin is correct<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>You can manage your PIN at&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/central.carleton.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carleton Central<\/a> or using <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/web-card-centre\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Campus Card Web Centre<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>You do not need to worry about entering a PIN number unless the reader indicates a PIN is required. When the red and green LED&#8217;s flash that indicates the reader is waiting for you to enter your PIN. Most SCS locations DO NOT require you to enter a PIN.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<h2 id=\"chipcards\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"chip\"><\/a>Chipcards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The university has introduced chipcard readers. Starting in 2024 all new campus cards will have a chip inside it that you will be able to use for these readers. How can you tell if your card has a chip? Look for the &#8216;Schlage&#8217; logo and a serial number beside the mag-stripe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" src=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-400x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18153\" srcset=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-400x300.jpg 400w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-160x120.jpg 160w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-240x180.jpg 240w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-800x600.jpg 800w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard-360x270.jpg 360w, https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/260\/chipcard.jpg 1280w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">If you have a Schlage sympol and serial number on your campus card then it is chip enabled.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If you require a campus card chip and you don&#8217;t have one then visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/campuscard\/\">campus card office<\/a> and replace your card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"troubleshooting\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a id=\"troubleshooting\"><\/a>Troubleshooting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Swipe your card and listen to the reader:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It should beep if it registered your swipe. No beep, try to swipe the card again.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It beeps but the LED is red then you don&#8217;t have access to the room. <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/scs\/tech-support\/request-lab-access-or-report-a-lab-issue\/\">Request access to computer lab<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If the LED light is toggling you need a PIN number to proceed! How to use the <a href=\"#PIN\">CBORD PIN&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"not-prose cu-quote cu-component-spacing\">\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>If a solid green LED is lit on the CBORD reader then the lab is unlocked. Simply push the door open. In most cases the LED is red and you require to swipe-in!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Check your Campus card magnetic stripe. Is it scratched or dirty? Is your card old or damaged?
