Mr. Durrell, was Ottawa’s mayor from 1985 to 1991. He later served as President of the Ottawa Senators Hockey Team and was inducted into the Ottawa Sports Hall of Fame as a builder in 2018. He is former owner and President of Capital Dodge Chrysler Jeep FIAT. He has extensive governance experience and has served on numerous boards including the Business Development Bank of Canada, Chairman of the Ottawa International Airport’s Board of Directors, and Chairman of the Ottawa Convention Centre, and the Ottawa Police Services Board. He is Chair of Hydro Ottawa Ltd and Hydro Ottawa Holding Inc and a board member for the OSEG Board Foundation. He has worked with numerous charities and organizations including the Ottawa Hospital, the United Way/Centraide Ottawa Campaign Cabinet, the Salvation Army, and the Kiwanis Club. In 2012, Mr. Durrell was appointed a member of the Order of Canada for his decades-long contributions to the City of Ottawa, as businessman, mayor and committed volunteer. He also received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award, Ottawa Chamber of Commerce in 2011 and the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in 2015.
Mr. Durrell has been nominated to serve on Carleton’s Board of Governors for a three-year term, ending June 30, 2021.
