Farima Afaq is a passionate, determined and proactive professional who is currently pursuing a Master of Public Policy at Carleton University with a bachelor’s degree in International Relations focusing on Foreign Policy; Journalism, Media and Public Discourse from Mount Holyoke, a prestigious and leading College for women leaders from around the world. Farima was awarded to study abroad at Paris Institute of Political Science. She speaks multiple languages including French, Dari, Persian, Pashtu, Hindi, Urdu, elementary Arabic, and possesses vast knowledge of various cultures and religions due to her relevant education and interaction with professionals, clients and people from around the world.
Farima recently completed her service as the Vice-President (Academic) at the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) at Carleton University and was elected by the graduate student body-at-large as the Graduate Student’s Representative also serving as a member of Carleton’s Community Engagement Initiative. Farima previously has held roles within government, media groups, non-profit and international organizations and academic institutions in Canada, the United States and Afghanistan. Professionally, she has served as a leader, starting at a young age, in her roles as a trainer and coach for the Afghan Women Politicians running for the Parliamentary elections in Afghanistan and the fields of policy, communications, programming, events and outreach, advocacy, marketing and human resources –supporting inspiring causes , with the ultimate goal of making a difference in people’s lives and communities worldwide.
Farima’s passion for helping people is evident through her interests in promoting domestic and international policy and development, peace and justice and making a positive impact at a local and global scale. Farima hopes to engage with future professional paths related to her background and interests in diverse environments—serving in the government and organizations with a meaningful mission and cause.
