Mira Gillis

Undergraduate Student

Mira Gillis is a third-year Public Affairs and Policy Management (PAPM) student with a minor in Communications and Media studies. Her interests lie in the field of political
communication and how the media helps to shape the societal narrative of politics.

Mira works as a Senate Page at the Senate of Canada. Being one of 15 Canadian undergraduate students selected, she has worked at special events such as the joint Parliamentary address of President Zelenskyy, the Opening of Parliament and the 2021 Speech from the Throne. Her regular day-to-day work includes attending various committee meetings and Senate

In regards to extracurricular activities, Mira serves as the co-founder and co-president of the Carleton University Be a Donor club. The aim of this club is to encourage the Carleton community to register as organ, blood and plasma donors. She also serves as the Vice President Academic of the Carleton Law society for the 2022-2023 academic year. Mira has also served as the Vice President of Administration of the Rideau River Residence Association in the 2021-2022 academic year. Through this role, she extended the Parliament Hill Program to include internship opportunities at the Senate of Canada and worked with Housing and Life Services by advocating for menstrual hygiene dispensers to be installed in the Residence Commons washrooms.

Outside of Carleton, Mira previously served as a National Youth Ambassador with World Vision Canada. This position led to her involvement in their #NoChildForSale campaign which advocated for stricter supply chain legislation in Canada. This opportunity allowed her to be invited with World Vision to the Women Deliver 2019 conference where she spoke of her advocacy experience. Mira has also worked with Student Life Network as a provincial ambassador on their #PromIsOn2020 campaign which raised over $14,000 for Kids Help Phone.

Mira looks forward to positively contributing and serving on the Carleton Board of Governors and is grateful to have been elected to represent the undergraduate students of the university.

Mira has been elected to the Board of Governors for a one-year term commencing July 1, 2022 and ending on June 30, 2023.
