BOARD OF GOVERNORS
CANDIDATE SELECTION PROCESS 2018
CANDIDATE FOR ACADEMIC AND LIBRARIAN STAFF GOVERNOR
I was an active member of Carleton’s board of governors (2013-2016) and senate (2009-2017), as well as several of their committees. Via blogging, I kept the Carleton University community apprised of open matters of the board (https://carletonbogblog.wordpress.com/) and senate (https://carletonsenateblog.wordpress.com/). My principle goal has been to inject a modicum of academic freedom, free speech, openness, transparency, equal protection, and due process into the board.
I am willing to fearlessly listen, speak and write, especially when it is to uphold quality of the university and rights of students, staff, and faculty. I understand the workings of the university from my previous experience with Carleton’s board, senate, and faculty association. In 2017/2018, I was directly responsible for altering the board’s bylaws and code of conduct to allow all governors to speak publicly and freely on all matters from board open sessions.
I champion equity and inclusion. The requirement for candidates to submit a photo of themselves is discriminatory (sexist, racist, ageist, etc.), converting a policy contest into a Trumpian beauty contest.
