Health Science Society – Candidate Profiles for Contested Positions
Election:  March 20 – 21, 2018

Candidates for Internal Affairs Director

Alyssa Walter (Internal Affairs Director)
Hi, my name is Alyssa Walter and I’m in my second year of Health Sciences with a concentration in Biomedical Science and minor in Psychology. Last year I was a Fall Orientation facilitator and will be returning to Fall-O again this September, and want to build a similar feeling of community with health science students. I hope to work with the internal affairs team to foster a cohesive group dynamic within the society; and extend that to the students in our department.  As a passionate Health Sciences student I would be honoured to represent Health Sciences to the greater Carleton community. Best of luck to everyone running and thank you for taking the time to read this!

Oghomwenosariemen Eregie (Internal Affairs Director) Oghomwen is a third-year student in the Honours Bachelor of Health Sciences program with a Concentration in Biomedical Sciences and a Minor in Philosophy. He has served as the Internal Affairs Director for the Health Science Society since September 2017 and as a member of the Student Advisory Board for Career Services at the University since January 2018. Drawing on the experiences gained in these roles, as well as his membership of both the United Nations Society and Commonwealth Students Association at the University, Oghomwen hopes to encourage active student participation through increased involvement of non-elected members in various issue-specific committees at the level of the Society and to increase the Society’s presence in the University by collaborating with other societies and clubs both within and outside the Faculty of Science.

Eleanor Duffley (Internal Affairs Director)
Hey! My name is Eleanor, I play women’s competitive soccer with the Ottawa Internationals, I play the flute and the ukulele, and the Lumineers is my favourite band! I am in first year Health Science with a concentration in Disability and Chronic Illness. After my undergraduate degree, I hope to attend medical school here in Canada, specializing in either obstetrics or paediatrics. I hope to someday work for an international organization like Doctors Without Boarders or The Red Cross, as I also have a keen interest in global health. This year I have really enjoyed being involved as first year representative on the Health Science Society and first year representative on the Carleton Science Student Society. I believe some of my strongest skills are my leadership abilities, organization, and interpersonal skills, and I look forward to contributing these in future to the Health Science Society!

Candidates for Vice-President, Finance

Ally Welten (VP Finance)
Hi, my name is Ally and I am a second year Honours Health Science student with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences and working on a minor in Biology. I am very involved within the Carleton community, for this past year I have been a Residence Fellow, a SSSC Mentor, a WileyPLUS Student Partner and a Bounce Back Mentor.  In my first year I was a member of the Health Science Society and I very much enjoyed my time within the society helping to plan events for our program.  This year if I was to be elected as VP Finance for the Carleton Health Science Society I want to be able to use the budget assigned in order to provide many opportunities to Health Science Students including Research Night, Capstone Sessions, De-stress activities and many more. As VP Finance I plan to take advantage of all opportunities for funding from CASG, CUSA and the CSSS.

Robert Pap (VP Finance)
Hey everyone, my name’s Robert Pap and I will be going into my fourth year of the Health Science program here at Carleton. I served as one of the Co-VP’s of Finance for the Health Science Society during the 2017-2018 academic year. In my role I kept track of all the club’s finances, dealt with banking issues, attended meetings with CUSA to secure our club’s funding, and helped out with a few events such as our first ever Health Science Research Night. I’m hoping I have your support to be re-elected as VP of Finance for the 2018-2019 academic year!
