Here are the highlights:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"draft-2023-24-operating-budget-presentation\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Draft 2023-24 Operating Budget Presentation<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate received a presentation on the proposed 2023-24 Operating Budget, which will be presented for approval at the April 24 meeting of the Board of Governors. Notwithstanding a challenging fiscal context, the budget is balanced with total revenues and expenses totalling $525 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"governance-of-graduate-curriculum-approvals\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Governance of Graduate Curriculum Approvals<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate approved a motion for the Senate Quality Assurance and Planning Committee (SQAPC) to make recommendations on how to facilitate the transfer of graduate curriculum approvals from the Graduate Faculty Board to the disciplinary Faculties. It is expected that SQAPC will be ready to present these recommendations at the next Senate in June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The transfer of approvals to the five disciplinary Faculties is expected to enhance opportunities for Faculties to strategically develop and manage graduate curriculum planning and innovation; improve resource planning and coordination of program delivery; and empower Faculties to design and develop innovative graduate programs, with meaningful input from peer\/related disciplines<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"undergraduate-and-graduate-major-modifications\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Undergraduate and Graduate Major Modifications<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate approved five major curriculum modifications, including the introduction of the Stream in Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive Modelling to the BCogSc and BCogSc (Hons), and the Concentration in Heritage Planning and Studies to the MA in Canadian Studies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All changes are to take effect as presented in Fall 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"senate-welcomes-new-members\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senate Welcomes New Members<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate is pleased to welcome its newest member appointments for terms of service beginning July 1, 2023:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Faculty Members (acclaimed)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Jean-Pierre Corriveau (Science \u2013 Computer Science)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Manuel Baez (FED \u2013 Architecture)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Student Members (acclaimed)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mackenzie Huckvale (UG \u2013 Science)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aaron North (UG \u2013 FASS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Senate also ratified a slate of 23 nominees for Senate committees, as presented, for service beginning July 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"senator-spotlight-manuel-baez\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Senator Spotlight: Manuel Ba\u00e9z<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Manuel A. Ba\u00e9z is a professor at Carleton\u2019s Azrieli School of Architecture and Urbanism. His work as an architect, artist and researcher draws inspiration from the generative potential of the forms, structures and integrative systems generated by elemental processes that exist throughout the natural environment. His research has been supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Canada Science and Technology Museum, the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, Cranbrook Academy of Art and Carleton. <a href=\"https:\/\/architecture.carleton.ca\/archives\/people\/manuel-baez\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Learn more about Manuel.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"reminder-senate-meeting-schedule-23-24\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Reminder: Senate Meeting Schedule 23\/24<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Senate Meeting Schedule for the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/senate\/meetings\/schedule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2023\/24 calendar is now available<\/a>. All meetings will be held in Pigiarvik\u2019s (formerly Robertson Hall) new Senate Room on the 6th floor from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm unless otherwise indicated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"next-meeting-june-2-2023\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Next Meeting: June 2, 2023<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The next Senate meeting is scheduled for June 2, 2023, at 2 PM.
