{"id":12836,"date":"2024-09-30T10:33:58","date_gmt":"2024-09-30T14:33:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/senate\/?p=12836"},"modified":"2025-10-10T10:58:02","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T14:58:02","slug":"call-for-nominations-clerk-of-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/senate\/2024\/call-for-nominations-clerk-of-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for Nominations: Clerk of Senate"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"w-screen px-6 cu-section cu-section--white ml-offset-center md:px-8 lg:px-14\">\n    <div class=\"space-y-6 cu-max-w-child-5xl  md:space-y-10 cu-prose-first-last\">\n\n            <div class=\"cu-textmedia flex flex-col lg:flex-row mx-auto gap-6 md:gap-10 my-6 md:my-12 first:mt-0 max-w-5xl\">\n        <div class=\"justify-start cu-textmedia-content cu-prose-first-last\" style=\"flex: 0 0 100%;\">\n            <header class=\"font-light prose-xl cu-pageheader md:prose-2xl cu-component-updated cu-prose-first-last\">\n                                    <h1 class=\"cu-prose-first-last font-semibold !mt-2 mb-4 md:mb-6 relative after:absolute after:h-px after:bottom-0 after:bg-cu-red after:left-px text-3xl md:text-4xl lg:text-5xl lg:leading-[3.5rem] pb-5 after:w-10 text-cu-black-700 not-prose\">\n                        Call for Nominations: Clerk of Senate\n                    <\/h1>\n                \n                                \n                            <\/header>\n\n                    <\/div>\n\n            <\/div>\n\n    <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n<p>The Senate Executive Committee is releasing a <strong>Call for Nominations<\/strong> for the position of <strong>Clerk of Senate.<\/strong>&nbsp; The term for the Clerk of Senate is three years beginning on July 1, 2025, with eligibility for re-election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Eligibility<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Full-time tenure-track faculty members at Carleton University are eligible to apply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Candidates with substantial experience in academic governance and direct experience in Senate are preferred.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><u>Duties of the Clerk of Senate<\/u>:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <em>Academic Governance of the University<\/em> (AGU), the Clerk of Senate is responsible for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Managing the affairs of Senate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serving as Marshal of Convocation (*with the approval of Senate, the Clerk may delegate this position to another Faculty member.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serving as Secretary of the General Faculty Board<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Serving as Senate Electoral Officer<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Managing Senate Committee memberships<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, the Clerk serves on several Senate Standing Committees including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Chair of Senate Academic Governance Committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chair of Senate Committee on Medals and Prizes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Secretary of the Senate Honorary Degrees Committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ex officio member of Senate Executive Committee<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ex officio member of Senate Committee on Curriculum, Admissions and Studies Policy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these formal responsibilities, the Clerk of Senate assists with the orientation process for new Senators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><u>Application Process<\/u>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested applicants should complete the following application form by October 31, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>Senators supporting the candidate should email their statements of support separately to <a href=\"mailto:kathy.mckinley@carleton.ca\">kathy.mckinley@carleton.ca<\/a>.&nbsp; <strong><u>All materials must be submitted by the stated deadline of October 31, 2024.<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please direct any inquiries to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kathy McKinley<br>\nAssistant University Secretary<br>\nCarleton University<br>\n<a href=\"mailto:Kathy.mckinley@carleton.ca\">Kathy.mckinley@carleton.ca<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Senate Executive Committee is releasing a Call for Nominations for the position of Clerk of Senate.&nbsp; The term for the Clerk of Senate is three years beginning on July 1, 2025, with eligibility for re-election.
