Senate officially received the report, and thanked Michael Charles and the EIC Advisory Group for their important work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"international-strategic-plan\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">International Strategic Plan<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Karen Schwartz, Associate Vice-President (Research and International) and International Liaison Officer, provided Senate with a presentation on <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/ci\/international-strategic-plan-2020-2025\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Carleton\u2019s International Strategic Plan<\/a>. The plan is designed to strengthen the university\u2019s international prominence and impact, and to better support the international engagement of Carleton\u2019s faculty and students. The International Strategic Plan will operationalize the \u2018Serve the World\u2019 direction of the newly launched <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/sip\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strategic Integrated Plan (SIP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"winter-2021-grading\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Winter 2021 Grading<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In keeping with Carleton\u2019s commitment to compassionate grading practices during the pandemic, Senate passed an additional flexible grading motion for the Winter 2021 term. In combination with the compassionate grading motion passed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/senate\/2020\/inside-senate-oct-30\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">October meeting<\/a>, students will now have the ability to convert one 0.5 credit to a satisfactory grade (SAT) in each of the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 semesters, or a singular full year 1.0 credit course in the Winter 2021 term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"chairs-remarks\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Chair&#8217;s Remarks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>President Bacon congratulated the Carleton community for the university\u2019s newly launched \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/sustainability\/sustainability-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strive for Sustainability<\/a>\u2019 Plan.&nbsp; The five-year plan is ambitious, and will further cement Carleton\u2019s reputation as one of the most sustainable universities in Canada.&nbsp; He also recognized Dana Brown, Dean of the Sprott School of Business, and her entire team for the development of their faculty\u2019s new strategic plan: <a href=\"https:\/\/sprott.carleton.ca\/strategic-plan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Business for a Better World<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, President Bacon reminded Senators of the university\u2019s upcoming participation in <a href=\"https:\/\/futurefunder.carleton.ca\/giving-tuesday-2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Giving Tuesday,<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/carleton.ca\/engineering-design\/taking-action-on-white-ribbon-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"enrolment-update\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Enrolment Update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Senators received a presentation from Suzanne Blanchard, Vice-President (Students and Enrolment) regarding Carleton\u2019s registration numbers for the Fall 2020 term. Overall, Carleton grew by 1.9% to 32,112 students, in part due to a significant rise in the two-year retention rate, which increased 2.7% from last year to 83.4%. It is notable that Carleton saw an uptick in both Master\u2019s (3.3%) and PhD (5.9%) student registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"carnegie-classification-for-community-engagement\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">Carnegie Classification for Community Engagement<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr. Karen Schwartz, Associate Vice-President (Research and International) and Dr. Lorraine Dyke, Deputy Provost (Academic Operations and Planning), provided Senators with a presentation on the Carnegie Classification System. Carnegie is the leading framework in the United States for institutional assessment of Community Engagement. The Carnegie classification is not yet offered in Canada, but Carleton is working with 16 post-secondary institutions from across the country to tailor the Carnegie criteria to a Canadian context. Carleton will apply to be a founding member of the Canadian Carnegie Classification when it is completed in the 2022\/\u201923 academic year.
