In many cases, the Carleton staff member may wish to provide a student leader with the opportunity to be an &#8220;Activity Validator&#8221;, but oversight\/confirmation must still be provided by the Carleton staff member. Carleton University Student Association (CUSA) is recognized for this purpose, student groups that they endorse can be included in the CCR with their approval. New Activity Owners must fill out the Activity Form located on the Co-Curricular Record section of the MySuccess website; this form is only available to Carleton professional staff (using a CUNET account) or students who have been pre-confirmed as Activity Validators (by a Carleton stakeholder). This is paid employment. The Co-Curricular Record is designed as a means of recognizing student\u2019s \u201cout of class\u201d involvement and most of this involvement is unpaid or honorarium based. A validator is a person who is responsible or affiliated with a group or activity and who can make a determination if a student has completed the activity. The validator role is a critical position within the Co-Curricular Record and can be filled by a faculty or staff member or a registered Carleton student who is acting in a leadership position as appointed by a faculty or staff member. They are used to identify the skills and personal growth areas students gain as a result of their co-curricular efforts. By identifying learning outcomes, students are encouraged to reflect on their experiences or make a determination of their skills or abilities that they utilized and developed during their experiences. This process of reflection promotes personal growth and prepares students to identify and speak of their experiences to others. Learning outcomes can also help guide programming. Further, the Co-Curricular Record Administrator will have the ability to reject an activity applications that are suspect. All concerns of misuse should be brought to the attention of the Co-Curricular Record Administrator and will be investigated. If misuse is found, the situation will go before the CCR Resolution Board and the individual will receive sanctions that result in, for example, a student losing access to their Co-Curricular Record account for a period of time or indefinitely.
