Carleton is looking for proctors to facilitate standard and accommodated exams! Motivated candidates who have graduated from an undergraduate degree or those external to the university with a professional background should complete the application below to get started on the path to becoming a proctor. The application provides more information about the job duties of the position, and requires responses to indicate required job competencies, which will assist us in selecting interview candidates.<\/p>\n\n

Who can apply?<\/a><\/dt>

We invite applications from retired staff, members of the external community, and graduate students, to help us meet the demand for invigilation services.<\/p><\/dd>

When can I apply?<\/a><\/dt>

Proctoring applications can be submitted throughout the year. For standard exam proctoring during final exam periods, applications are reviewed for hiring 1-2 months in advance of the exam period. The Academic Calendar<\/a> outlines when these examination periods occur. The McIntyre Exam Centre reviews applications and hires for accommodated exams throughout the year based on demand.<\/p>\n

Remuneration and hours<\/a><\/dt>

Proctoring positions are a casual employment opportunity that offer a flexible schedule that begins at an hourly rate matching the Ontario Minimum Wage.<\/p>\n

Proctors will work in standard and accommodated exams that are scheduled during the exam periods as listed in the University Academic Calendar<\/a>, or additionally as needed for accommodated exams in the McIntyre Exam Centre throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Unless otherwise stated, proctor shift start times in both standard and accommodated exams are scheduled by the Exam Centre Coordinator, with possible start times at as early as 8:00 a.m. and up to 6:30pm. Shifts are 4 hours minimum in duration (and could range up to 8 hours).\u00a0 In the McIntyre Exam Centre, shifts can be scheduled at any time of the day during the operational hours: 7 days a week from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.. \u00a0In all cases, punctuality is an absolute requirement.<\/p>\n

Successful proctor applicants will be asked to identify shifts they can commit to working. While there is an attempt to schedule as many identified hours as possible, there is no guarantee that all submitted hours will be scheduled.<\/p>\n

Accommodated Exams<\/a><\/dt>

The McIntyre Exam Centre provides services for students with accommodation needs, as documented through the Paul Menton Centre for Students with Disabilities (PMC), for tests and exams scheduled in their courses. This facility, operated by Scheduling & Examinations Services (SES), provides year-round service in an environment designed to meet a range of PMC requirements.<\/p><\/dd>

After you are hired<\/a><\/dt>

As part of the hiring process, successful proctor applicants will be required to complete some online training modules and provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Police Check.You will also get information on job duties from the Proctor Platform page and be assigned shadow shifts to get you ready for the job.\u00a0 Before each exam period, we will ask you to identify shifts that you can commit to working. While there is an attempt to schedule as many identified hours as possible, there is no guarantee that all submitted hours will be scheduled.<\/p>\n

There is no need to re-apply before each exam period after you are hired as we will send out invitation before each exam period based on our needs to request for your time availability.
