Carleton is a wonderful place to learn. It is home to a competitive forensic psychology program, one of the few available in Canada. And it is the home of the Sexually Harmful Behaviours Research Lab! Come join us in our mission to reduce sexually harmful behaviours through research.<\/p>\r\n

Interested in volunteering with the SHB Lab? <\/strong>Thank you so much for your interest! We\u2019re thrilled that you\u2019d like to get involved. We are constantly looking for volunteers to help support our research endeavours! Tasks involves transcriptions of interviews, literature reviews, formatting, programming, and many others. Task complexity progress with time. I am open to volunteers outside of Carleton University, though preference will be given to Carleton students.<\/p>\r\n

Due to the number of inquiries we receive, we\u2019re not able to respond to individual emails. <\/strong>So if you\u2019re interested in joining the team, you do not need to email Dr. Babchishin. Instead, please take a moment to fill out our Prospective Research Assistant Survey<\/a>. We\u2019ll be in touch if an opportunity opens up that\u2019s a good fit! Note that students typically start as unpaid research assistants.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Undergraduate Students<\/h3>\r\n

Thank you for your interest in completing an honours thesis within the Sexually Harmful Behaviours Lab!\u00a0 For those interested in\u00a0Fall 2027,<\/strong>\u00a0Carleton University has an online application that all students who are interested in completing Honour’s thesis must complete.\u00a0This online form, sent via the Psychology Department, is sent in late fall to students.\u00a0<\/strong>The Department will send everyone updates and reminders when the online application form becomes available. The deadline to submit applications is typically December. Importantly, students who do not apply by this December deadline will not be eligible for the thesis class during the 2027-28 academic year. I do not currently have plans to accept undergraduate thesis students in 2027-28 as I may be in sabbatical.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Graduate Students<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MA:<\/strong> I expect to accept at least one MA student starting Fall 2027. For all those interested, please ensure to peruse Carleton’s Website<\/a>\u00a0for information on the program, requirements, and deadlines.\u00a0Graduate Information Sessions<\/a> are available to gain more information on Carleton graduate programs and our admission process. I will be contacting all those who apply that list me as a primary supervisor of interest to conduct interviews typically late January 2027 make a decision. I do not meet with students prior to the application deadline so that there is equity across applicants.<\/strong> I do send a short survey to those who apply to my lab and then schedule interviews. Successful applications are notified in the Spring.<\/p>\r\n

Ph.D. :\u00a0<\/strong>I will be taking at least one Ph.D. student for Fall 2027. I generally only accept Ph.D. students that I have worked previously with either as a research assistant, independent project student, thesis student, or someone that previously volunteered for the lab or that I’ve met with at conference. This is because the Ph.D. is a long commitment so I believe it is important we first establish that we work well together before committing to each other. I do not meet with students prior to the application deadline so that there is equity across applicants.<\/strong> I do send a short survey to those who apply to my lab and then schedule interviews.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
