\n In Memoriam: Celebrating Marion Bogo, Lab Affiliate\n <\/h1>\n \n \n <\/header>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/section>\n\n\n\n

It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of our dear friend, mentor, colleague, and Lab Affiliate Marion Bogo<\/a> on September 26, 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When the SIM Social Work Research Lab was officially launched in March 2019, Marion served as our keynote speaker and one of our biggest supporters. Her work was instrumental in the establishment of our work at the Lab. To celebrate our opening, Marion gave a wonderful keynote on simulation-based social work education. Kenta Asakura, the Lab Director, shares:<\/p>\n\n\n

“Some of the lab members, including myself, were closely mentored by Professor Bogo. Marion provided me with the kind of mentorship for the past 10 years that allowed me to find my authentic voice as a scholar. She always pushed me to think about the broader impacts of social work education and research on the future of the profession and the wellbeing of clients we serve. The program of research in this lab and practice-focused teaching we now have at Carleton are one of the many legacies that Marion has left for us.” <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

As described<\/a> by her colleagues from the Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work at the University of Toronto, Marion’s work transformed social work education and practice in Canada and abroad through her development of a holistic model of competence for social work, as well as ground-breaking programs in simulation-based learning. Through her leadership in social work education research, Marion emerged as a leading scholar in the field, becoming widely known in North America as \u201cthe dean of social work education research.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a brilliant educator and dedicated researcher, Marion was the recipient of many awards and honours\u2014including the University of Toronto\u2019s inaugural President\u2019s Teaching Award<\/a>, the Council on Social Work Education Significant Lifetime Achievement in Social Work Education Award, and her appointment as an Officer of the Order of Canada<\/strong> for her achievements in the field of social work. More recently, Marion was awarded the 2020 Ontario Association of Social Workers (OASW) Lifetime Achievement Award<\/a>, recognizing her outstanding achievements and distinguished contributions to the social work profession in Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marion has profoundly impacted our work at the SIM Lab. We will miss her dearly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
