After arriving at Carleton University’s School of Social Work, Kenta advocated for a simulation-based laboratory that could focus on simulation-based research on social work education and practice. In 2018, the SIM Social Work Research Lab was successfully launched. Kenta has been revitalizing clinical social work education and practice through simulation-based research through the SIM Lab. As a result of his efforts over the years, the SIM Lab has produced countless simulation-based research studies, significant publications and essential research outputs.

Kenta’s impact has been felt and valued by the Carleton University community and beyond. As of August 2022, a new chapter will begin for Kenta at the Smith College School for Social Work (MA, United States). There, he will be an Incoming Associate Professor as well as the Chair of Practice Sequence. He will continue his work on simulation research and explore ways to incorporate simulation-based methodologies into the social work curriculum at Smith College.

Kenta, the SIM Lab is forever grateful for your work in making the SIM Lab possible. Your efforts and hard work have paved a path for novel and vital simulation-based research on social work education and practice. We wish you immense success in your future work at Smith College School for Social Work and we look forward to continuing to collaborate with you.

As of July 1st 2022, the Lab’s Co-Director Dr. Sarah Todd will step into the role of Director! Sarah has been the Lab’s Co-Director alongside Dr. Kenta Asakura since its inception. We are delighted to continue being guided by her leadership, direction and incredible scholarship.

As of July 1st 2022, the SIM Social Work Research Lab’s Founding Director, Dr. Kenta Asakura, will be departing Carleton University.
