Web Programmer

The School of Journalism and Communication seeks a Web programmer to update an existing Web application for our Journalism Apprenticeships Program. You’ll be responsible for designing, coding and improving the functionality of the Web application.

As a Web programmer, you will produce clean, documented code to ensure the Web application runs properly and addresses user needs. You’ll take the project brief and transform it into a fully functional and user-friendly Web application.


  • Produce fully functional programs writing clean, testable code
  • Collaborate with other developers to identify requirements
  • Integrate back-end data
  • Design user interface and web layout using HTML/CSS best practices
  • Upgrade and repair existing programs
  • Perform debugging
  • Create technical documentation for user support
  • Suggest new features to improve navigation and functionality
  • Follow security principles


  • Proven work experience as a Web programmer or developer
  • Hands on experience with various programming languages including JavaScript and PHP
  • Hands on experience with MySQL and Web APIs
  • Hands on experience with HTML and CSS
  • Working knowledge of photo editing and creating graphics
  • Attention to detail
  • An ability to communicate and work in a team environment

The rate of pay for this project is $20/hour to a maximum of $2,800.
