Associate Professor Irena Knezevic has secured a new grant through the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council’s Partnership Engage Grant program. The funding will allow her to conduct community-based research with the Small Scale Food Processors Association over the next two years. Collaborators also include researchers from Dalhousie University, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and the University of Northern British Columbia.

Through applied research, the team will develop new knowledge about small-scale food processing enterprises and their place in the food system, identify how this sector impacts and is impacted by community development, and explore how innovation in the sector is understood by processors themselves, and other food-systems actors (e.g., policy-makers, industry associations).
